The Thornton Foundation
Building Skills. Creating Opportunities. Changing Futures.
Opening doors for the next generation of skilled tradespeople across London.
Contact the Thornton Foundation
The Thornton Foundation is a community initiative owned by Thornton FM, created with one clear purpose: to help young people across London develop practical skills, access trade-based training and build pathways towards meaningful employment.
We believe talent exists in every community, but opportunity does not always reach everyone. By connecting young people with training, industry experience and potential employment opportunities, we aim to help individuals build brighter futures while supporting the next generation of skilled workers.
Our mission is simple: give young people the skills, confidence and opportunities to build a career.
Creating Pathways into Skilled Trades
The construction, facilities management and building services industries offer rewarding career opportunities, but getting started can be difficult without the right guidance, qualifications or industry connections.
The Thornton Foundation aims to bridge that gap.
Through our relationship with Thornton FM and the wider Thornton Group, we want to help young people discover careers in practical trades, gain relevant skills and understand what it takes to succeed in the workplace.
Our focus is on creating real pathways into employment, rather than simply offering advice. Where suitable opportunities exist, we aim to connect participants with potential work placements, apprenticeships, training opportunities and jobs within our group.
What We Aim to Deliver
Trade Skills and Training
Help young people access opportunities to learn practical, in-demand skills across the industries we operate in, including construction, building services, maintenance, electrical and mechanical services, telecoms and other skilled trades.
Work Experience and Industry Exposure
Introduce young people to real working environments, experienced professionals and the wide range of careers available across the facilities management and construction sectors.
Employment Opportunities
Use our connection with Thornton FM and the wider group to create potential routes into employment, including entry-level roles, apprenticeships and opportunities to progress into skilled positions as people gain experience and qualifications.
Mentoring and Career Guidance
Help young people understand the different career paths available, develop confidence and learn the professional skills needed to succeed in the workplace.
From Learning a Trade to Building a Career
We want to make the journey into employment clearer and more accessible.
Our ambition is to develop a pathway that takes young people from discovering a trade to learning practical skills, gaining experience and progressing towards employment.
Discover. Learn. Develop. Work. Progress.
By working alongside industry professionals and training providers, the Thornton Foundation aims to help participants build the foundations for long-term careers, while helping address skills shortages across the industries we serve.
Backed by Thornton FM. Focused on the Future.
Thornton FM is a UK-wide facilities management provider delivering services across building maintenance, cleaning, utilities, telecoms, construction and associated building services.
Through the Thornton Foundation, we want to use our industry knowledge, professional network and operational experience to create opportunities that make a meaningful difference in local communities.
Our connection to the industry gives us an opportunity to introduce young people to employers, demonstrate the value of skilled trades and help develop the workforce of tomorrow.
We see this as more than a community initiative. It is a long-term commitment to investing in people, developing skills and helping the next generation access careers they can be proud of.
Investing in Young People Across London
Our initial focus is on young people across London, particularly those who may face barriers to entering employment or accessing vocational training.
We want to work with schools, colleges, community organisations, training providers and local partners who share our ambition to create better opportunities for young people.
By bringing communities and industry together, we aim to help more young people gain the skills, experience and confidence needed to take their first steps into the world of work.
Work With the Thornton Foundation
We believe that creating opportunities for young people is a shared responsibility.
